Damage assessment & Reparations (August 2020 – March 2021)
In order to help the USJ community (students and faculty), visits to the damaged houses were arranged. Appointments were made with the help of the call center.
USJ engineers and employees volunteered to visit the damaged houses and fill an assessment form in order to determine the houses that need to be evacuated, the houses that need repairs and the repairs’ cost.
Several donors have helped “USJ en Mission” in the process of renovating the houses, including “The International Catholic Mission Society missio Munich”, Shariki NGO, and Lecico. Various donations (house supplies, bathroom supplies, wood, and glass) were offered, covering a part of repair costs.
The budget we received to repair the houses was around USD 53,000. This allowed us to repair 53 houses out of the 95 assessed houses, so 56% of the houses.
The rest of the houses were allocated to NGOs working in the areas where these houses were located. Collaboration was made with NGOs such as Nusaned and Medair.
