Food boxes (June 2020 – june 2022)
The campaign was launched in April 2020 by USJ students, its objective consisting of supporting 250 families affected by the economic situation, by sending them a food box once a month.
Since the explosion, the demand multiplied by 6: 1350 families were provided with a food box as well as basic supplies and hygiene products such as shampoo, hand gel etc.
Boxes were distributed by USJ volunteers, with the active participation of the USJ Secular Club.
We are currently supporting 594 families with a food box every month.
A follow-up is done for all the families that we help each month, containing the number of members, their age, their profession, if they are unemployed or not, their critical needs in food and medicine.
60% of these 594 families are a family of 4+ members
48.5% of these 594 families are unemployed
The project with the 650 families ended in June 2022.
Small businesses initiative (March 2021 – June 2021)
The food boxes that we distribute every month allow us to bring a precious and necessary help to families whose number remains limited even if it does not stop increasing. This action remains limited and cannot be sustainable.
It is therefore necessary to encourage small producers, local stores, housewives who make the “Lebanese mouné” by buying their products and by integrating them into the boxes. Thus, we kill two birds with one stone: we offer our families a new product every month: jam, olive oil, soap, sesame oil, thyme, … and we actively support the producers who are suffering a lot because of the crisis.
